How do I obtain access to the Information Systems computer labs?

VCU Information Systems network accounts will be automatically created for students currently enrolled in INFO classes (excluding INFO360 and INFO100 level classes). In an effort to comply with the University’s single sign-on goals we have created accounts on our network using the same username as those of the University’s eDirectory. What funds the ISY computer labs and Back Office?

The Information Systems Computer labs facilities are funded through a number of sources made available from the School of Business, the University and the work done through the Department itself.

Labs:

Higher Education Equipment Technology Funds: HEETF funds are given to colleges and universities for tehnology and teaching equipment. This fund accounts for about 65% of Information Systems funding.

Equiment and General fund: This is budgeted monies given to higher education from state budgets. These account for about 20% of Information Systems funding.

Student Technology Fees: This is money included in students tuition to cover the costs of technology equipment, computer classrooms, student activity centers (i.e. Team Building Center) and maintainence of equipment. This accounts for the remaining 15% of Information Systems funding for its student labs and technology to support it.

Back Office and Software:

Corporate Donations and academic alliances with companies such as Oracle, SAP America, IBM, JD Edwards, and Microsoft reduce the purchase cost of software for the department. The servers used to support the Information Systems classes are purchased using HEETF and other E&G funds.
